Usually that doesn’t seem like a bad thing, but it is. Games need chaos. Planning and strategy are obviously hugely important to the gamer, but they can’t be the only things.
A professional Starcraft match consists of picking a strategy, usually before you even start, and executing it perfectly. Every second that your mouse hovers, not delivering the right command, is a push towards loss.
You need to have the right units gathering the right ratios of minerals and gas, and from the right nodes to be most efficient. There’s a pre-arranged order to the buildings you should be making.
There’s no freedom.
Maybe I’m biased because I actually enjoy thinking on my feet and having moments of spontaneity and surprise (from games like first-person shooters and MMORPGs), but I don’t find that kind of gaming fun at all.
First of all. “Why i think you shouldn’t enjoy it either?” Who the fuck do you think you are?
Second of all: you know what other games have strategies? Chess. Football. Tic-Tac-Toe. Are you too dumb to play those too? How about I throw you in a tub of colored golfballs and you can find all the pink ones for me? Seems like something you’d enjoy.
Third of all: You must have never really played starcraft. You may not like the game, which i can understand, but don’t try to justify your lack of ability to competently play a game just because you just can’t handle a little fucking thinking.
You obviously have no real understanding of starcraft from what I can tell, so I’m not trying to change your mind about liking the game. I understand that your your brain cells just can’t process information that quickly, it’s totally understandable. But please, for our sake, don’t tell us that we should be thinking like you. Ever. It’s your fault that a large percentage of people believe that the devil put the dinosaur bones in the ground to test our faith.
Alright. You may go back to shooting spit-wads at your PEZ collection. Make sure you wear your protective eye-wear.
It’s pretty rude to just make these assumptions, AJ. It’s clear that he doesn’t own a PEZ collection. Because it requires too much strategy to plan out a display for them, and every second he doesn’t make one, it’s a push towards dust accumulation.
LEXI, you and your friend are both AWESOME BEYOND WORDS.
Jaedong’s entire game philosophy is to stick the build order and mechanics will do the rest. Spontaneity and anticipation is what made him bonjjwa. 2 Time OSL winner Fantasy’s entire game is centered on not having a strategy. If that’s not spontaenous, I do not know what is.
If you think there is no freedom in the game, have you seen how Boxer micros his transport and siege tank so that the dragoon damage will fizzle? Creativity in using your units is what makes broodwar great.
Surprise and spontaneity in broodwar comes when you forge FE and then expand to Bisu Build but when your corsair sees the spire is late, you are fucked because a hydra break will come any minute now. That is when you have to think on your feet like turning 360 because a guy is sniping you from the back. Tech switches are a bitch.
I guess broodwar is not for OP and he did not have the patience or APM to actually keep up.
